Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, esteemed educators, dedicated learners, and proud parents,

Tonight is a night of celebration, a night of gratitude, and a night of inspiration. We gather here not just to recognise the outstanding achievements of the Phehellang Secondary School Matric Class of 2024 but also to reaffirm our shared commitment to education as the foundation for a brighter future. The journey of these young men and women is a story of dedication, perseverance, and triumph, and we are proud to honour them tonight.

Nelson Mandela once said, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’ Tonight, we celebrate the learners of Phehellang who have equipped themselves with this weapon and are ready to make a difference. They have proven that knowledge is not just about personal success but about uplifting communities and breaking barriers for future generations.

Julius Malema also said, ‘An educated nation is a liberated nation.’ True freedom comes when young people are empowered through education, and tonight’s achievers are on a journey towards that liberation. Their hard work and determination remind us that education is the key to unlocking endless possibilities and creating a South Africa where everyone has a fair chance at success.

I want to take this moment to extend my deepest gratitude to those who have made this evening possible and whose contributions have shaped the success of these learners:

  • MEC for Education, Ms. Maboya – Your leadership has paved the way for continuous improvements in education. Your dedication ensures that schools like Phehellang continue to excel.
  • Dr. Vusi Chuta – The Fezile Dabi Education District has shone under your leadership, securing an impressive 93.5% pass rate. Your vision and dedication have changed lives, and we are proud to have you here tonight.
  • SGB Chairperson, Mr. Oupa Madikile – Your commitment to ensuring that the learners and educators receive the necessary support has been invaluable. A strong school governing body is key to academic success, and you have demonstrated that.
  • Principal DS Maloyi-Mofokeng – You have led Phehellang to an extraordinary 98.1% pass rate, setting a standard of excellence. Your passion for education is evident in these results.
  • Educators of Phehellang – Without your hard work, dedication, and belief in your learners, none of this would be possible. You are shaping the leaders of tomorrow, and we salute you.
  • Top Achievers, Moroe Kelebogile & Nelani Bongani – Your exceptional results have made Tumahole proud. You have proven that dedication leads to greatness.
  • Religious and Community Leaders, including Bishop Sekete – Your support and mentorship provide moral and spiritual guidance, reminding our learners that success is about character as much as it is about academics.
  • Members of the Free State Legislature, including Mr. Bosanku Msimanga – Your role in advocating for quality education and ensuring that schools receive the support they need is highly appreciated.

This evening is not just about celebrating past achievements, but about inspiring future generations. The Edgar Legoale Foundation believes in education as the foundation for change. We want learners to understand that their hard work does not go unnoticed. We want them to see that their community supports them, believes in them, and will continue to uplift them on their journey to success.

Phehellang Secondary School has a rich history within Tumahole. This school has produced some of the brightest minds and continues to be a symbol of excellence in education. Tumahole itself has a long history of resilience and growth, and this school is a reflection of that journey. It is through education that we honour the legacy of those who came before us and ensure a better future for those who come after us.
I also want to recognise and appreciate the distinguished individuals who have contributed to this evening’s success:

  • Our MC, Penny Tshabalala, for guiding us through this beautiful evening with professionalism and warmth.
  • Pastor Mike Tsotetsi, for opening the evening with prayer and setting the right tone for this special occasion.
  • Nthabiseng Molejane, Manager of the Edgar Legoale Foundation, for your tireless efforts in organising this event and ensuring its success.
  • Kunene Kananelo, RCL Representative, for being a leader among your peers and setting an example of excellence.
  • Ms. DJ Kolobe, representing the educators, for your dedication and passion in shaping young minds.
  • Ms. MM Kareli, Circuit Manager, for your oversight and commitment to the success of education in this district.

To the matric class of 2024, this is only the beginning. Tonight, we celebrate your success, but the journey does not end here. Your future is bright, and the possibilities are endless. Continue to work hard, stay focused, and remember that education is your key to unlocking a world of opportunities. You are the leaders, innovators, and change-makers of tomorrow.

Remember that success is not measured by where you start, but by how far you are willing to go. The road ahead may not always be easy, but with perseverance, commitment, and the right mindset, you will achieve greatness.
To the parents and community members, let us continue to support our learners. Education does not end in the classroom—it is a lifelong journey that requires community effort. Let us ensure that every child in Tumahole has the opportunity to succeed, to dream, and to make those dreams a reality.

In closing, I want to once again thank every individual who has contributed to making this evening a success. From our distinguished guests to our dedicated educators, from our proud parents to our hardworking learners—tonight is for you. Let us continue to uplift one another, to believe in the power of education, and to work together for a future that is bright and full of promise.

On behalf of the Edgar Legoale Foundation, I thank you all for being part of this historic evening. Let us continue to work together to build a future where every learner in Tumahole and beyond has the chance to shine.
Thank you, and may you have a wonderful evening filled with celebration, reflection, and inspiration.
